76th Annual Flower Mart Spotlights Flowers and Culture of Asia

An irresistible array of festival foods, children’s rides, artisanal & boutique gifts and, of course, herbs & flowers, will once again fill the nave and grounds of Washington National Cathedral at this year’s Flower Mart.  Drawing locals and tourists alike since 1939, the festival of flowers and fun will feature traditional dance and musical performances and elaborate floral displays from the countries of Asia.  The Flower Mart is the work of hundreds of All Hallows Guild volunteers whose efforts support the maintenance of the majestic 59-acres surrounding the Cathedral. 


WHAT:          All Hallows Guild’s Flower Mart 2015


WHEN:         Friday, May 1, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
                    Saturday, May 2, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.


WHERE:     Washington National Cathedral, Wisconsin and Massachusetts Avenues, N.W. Parking will be available in the Cathedral garage and shuttle buses will run from Tenleytown Metro stop on both days. Any #30 series bus, as well as Old Town Trolley, stops directly in front of the Cathedral.


WHO:        Aficionados of hand-crafted gifts and country fair cuisine, families, gardening enthusiasts and almost everyone else will enjoy Flower Mart 2015.  Other honored guests include representative of the featured Asia embassies.

Flower Mart 2015 “Don’t Miss List”

Asia! Our honored continent -- Over 23 Asian countries plus Taiwan and Hong Kong SAR will be participating in Flower Mart with indigenous flower arrangements, ethnic foods, travel displays and/or traditional music and dance performances.


Grotesque Walk New for 2015 - High above Flower Mart, along the outdoor gutter walkway between the two west towers, this self-guided tour offers a close-up look at some of the Cathedral’s more whimsical and creative grotesques and gargoyles (including the famed Darth Vader grotesque).  $5 per ticket, Friday and Saturday 10:30am- 3:30pm (times may vary). 


Cathedral Tower ClimbThe rarely permitted (thus, always-popular) 333-step climb to the bell-ringing chamber in the great Central Tower of Washington National Cathedral, 300 feet above the ground. Friday - 12:30 to 4:30, $7.50 per person (no bell ringing). Saturday - 10 am to 3:30 pm (except noon) every half hour. $10 per person.


10 Years of International Floral Displays – Over 25 countries will be exhibiting colorful indigenous flower arrangements and representations of their cultures in the nave of the Cathedral.


Mother’s Day Shopping Mecca – Over 80 unique boutiques will encircle the Cathedral, offering artisan-crafted jewelry, clothing, art, décor and LOTS of plants for Mom!


SUPER Premier Plants Booth -- Our largest plant booth ever with more annuals, perennials, locally-grown herbs and NEW miniature conifers in containers plus lovely hanging baskets. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions.


1890’s Wooden Traveling Carousel - One of the last two remaining in the country, and now on the National Register of Historic Places, each hand-painted animal is a work of art with special significance to delight all ages.


Kids’ Corner – Carnival rides, climbing walls,  games, an old-fashioned Organ Grinder and his monkey, an antique Carousel, a Puppet Show and non-stop musical and dance performances will keep kids of all ages entertained.


Fair Fare: A Festival for FoodiesTwenty food booths and trucks will be offering classic country fair cuisine (grilled burgers, kettle corn), traditional American favorites (Lobster Rolls!), tasty Asian dishes (with tea at the Sayre House) and foods from some of the city’s most popular restaurants (Rocklands, Ben’s Chili Bowl).


Our “Old Fashioned” Puppet Show This highly popular tradition continues with the  daughters of  three of  the original Puppeteers giving their voices and animation to the cast of delightful characters at Flower Mart’s much-loved  performance in the Bethlehem Chapel. Children will be entranced.
